About Luma Treasures
Handmade felt toys carrying compassion, peace and craft from the Himalayan foothills to homes across the world.
CHAPTER ONE
The Light Behind the Name
"Luma" comes from lumen, meaning light. It is the soft glow of a lamp at storytime, the warmth of a handmade gift, and the spark in a child's eyes at play. For us, Luma stands for three things we hold close: compassion for the hands that make our products, peace in the slow, mindful craft of felting, and a lasting commitment to the empowerment of women, of rural and Indigenous communities, and of the children whose imaginations our toys are made to light up.
Every Luma treasure carries that light from the Himalayan foothills to homes across the world.
CHAPTER TWO
Dipa's Story
Luma Treasures was founded by Dipa, who was born and raised in Nepal. She moved to Australia in 2020 but her heart never left home. She had witnessed the devastation of the 2015 earthquake and later watched from afar as COVID-19 swept through Nepal, taking livelihoods with it.
Out of that heartbreak came a promise to herself: to give back to her community by building sustainable businesses that create real opportunity for the women and rural Indigenous people of Nepal.
That promise grew into a family of purpose-driven ventures , Taparu, Sattvic Sustainable Farming, and Luma Treasures. With a naturally creative mind and a keen eye for design, Dipa shaped Luma Treasures into a brand that embodies everything she believes in: compassion, peace, and the quiet power of women supporting women.

At the core of Luma Treasures is a commitment to women's empowerment. Our business model is built to provide fair wages and dignified livelihoods to the women artisans who create our products.
Many of these women are mothers, working from home or in small community workshops so they can balance their craft with family life. Sustainable employment gives them the means to support their families and strengthen their communities on their own terms.
Our artisans use traditional felting techniques passed down through generations. Every toy is a labour of love, crafted with care by hands that know their worth.

The journey from idea to toy is a true collaboration: Dipa and her team design each piece in Melbourne, and skilled Nepali artisans bring it to life, adding their own unique touch ,the best of two worlds, woven together in wool.

Sustainability isn't a feature for us; it's the foundation. Our felt is made from 100% natural New Zealand wool, dyed with eco-friendly, non-toxic dyes that are safe for children and kind to the environment.
The felting process itself is low-impact, using minimal water and energy no machines, no shortcuts, just skilled hands. Throughout our supply chain, we work to reduce waste and choose eco-friendly practices, from natural materials to recyclable packaging.
